MESSENGER
WATCH offers donor advisory services to potential or actual
supporters of media ministries and religious charities, including para-church
missions, religious schools, Christian counseling centers and other
entities that present their work as ministry.
People donate to
religious media, missions and other "ministries" without full
disclosure about 1) to whom they give, 2) the validity of needs for
which donations are made, or 3) how gifts are used. Thousands of religious
radio and television broadcasters, missionaries and religious charities
seek tax-deductible contributions from a population that wants to be
supportive--even at the price of making personal sacrifices. How does
the average contributor know which ministry-at-a-distance deserves support?
MESSENGER WATCH examines ministries and reports findings that
enable contributors to make informed decisions about giving.
Service
is Biblical |
A
legitimate ministry has nothing to hide. Scriptures are clear
about ministers being honest; cf., Romans 12:17; 2 Corinthians
4:2; 8:21; Philippians 4:8. |
Service
is Practical |
Before
contributing, donors need to know about people, practices, purposes.
Giving should be based on accurate information, not emotional
maneuvering. MW asks questions to elicit answers contributors
need; cf. Romans 12:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; 2; Timothy 3:14. |
Service
is Ethical |
Ethics
deal with what is right, fair, just. Information derived by this
service will reinforce the authentic, the ethical and virtuous,
but expose the counterfeit, the unethical, the suspect, and the
unscrupulous. MW applies the Ephesian principle. Biblical history
commends its use and effectiveness; cf. Revelation 2:2. |
